Join us for an afternoon of Stewardship, Hiking, Potluck & Play at Rancho Mark West, just in time to say goodbye to Summer, and say hello to Fall!
Since 2010, LandPaths and beloved volunteers have been nurturing and expanding an organic garden, near the historic barn at Rancho Mark West. This garden is now ripe, not only with an abundance of healthy fruits and vegetables, but with the opportunity to become one of your family's special outdoor spots--to learn from, to steward, to play in, and to harvest from. This garden is begging to play host, and so we invite you to the first Afternoon Family Garden Party at Rancho Mark West. Our hope is to open up the garden one Saturday per month to all who are interested in lending a hand, being in community, learning from local farmers, harvesting, eating, playing, music-making etc.
Why You Should Come: Because the Garden could use all of our hands helping at once. Because children and gardens are a great combination. Because you want to get out and go for a hike. Because kids who turn up their noses at anything green will surprise you by their willingness to sample strange delicacies like "kale" and "chard," when they get to pick it off the plant itself. Because being outside, stewarding the land with like-minded folk is healing and fun. Because Dolores (RMW Garden Guru) has a lot of knowledge to share. Because there will be music and crafts and a chance to just romp around outside. Because you don't have a garden of your own. Because you want to look for crawdads in the creek.
The schedule of activities for the afternoon will loosely look like this:
2:00: Garden Stewardship & "Ask a Farmer" ("Ask a Farmer" will be an informal opportunity for you to ask any question about gardening that you may have to Dolores Barrett, Rancho Mark West Neighbor, long-time LandPaths volunteer, and current "Garden Guru" at the Rancho Mark West Garden.)
3:30: Music & crafts in the barn (Please bring an instrument & a favorite song!)
4:00: Stick around the barn for more music, more food, more stewardship, family-friendy crafts, free play, or join us for a guided hike, including a creek exploration
5:00: Join us for a Potluck dinner (LandPaths will provide simple fixings for burritos including fresh veggies from the garden)
When: September 14th, 2:00pm-6:00pm
