Bohemia Amazing

Camp Bohemia is a nature-based day camp open to young people aged 7-14, with a Junior Mentor Program for youth 15+.  Camp is located at the LandPaths-owned Bohemia Ecological Preserve near Occidental. The Preserve is a 1,000 acre LandPaths-owned community gem. This remote property offers awe-inspiring views from vast coastal prairie meadows interspersed with stands of old-growth fir, hardwood riparian forest, chaparral and oak woodlands. The preserve is home to many creeks, a spring fed pond, and diverse flora and fauna.

Camp Bohemia is an unique camp where children explore and connect with the inherent beauty and wonder of nature. The extraordinary diversity of the Bohemia Preserve will serve as our learning venue and inspiration. Camp Bohemia is a labor of love inspired by the magic of Coyote Camp, directed by Stacy Lippincott and supported by Annie Klein. Our mentors are college educated, skilled and trained outdoor educators who are CPR and First Aid certified.

Important Notice:  Camp Bohemia is dependent upon the approval of a Conditional Use Permit from the county for LandPaths’ Bohemia Ecological Preserve.  This process is currently underway. LandPaths has been advised by experts to move forward with planning Camp Bohemia as the granting of the Conditional Use Permit appears likely.  LandPaths will send an update on the process to all registered families by May 15th, 2018.  By June 1st, 2018, a final decision will be made.  LandPaths will offer a full refund to all registered families on June 1st  if the Conditional Use Permit is declined or delayed.

Camp Bohemia Specifics

Children will split into small groups for morning adventures with their highly skilled mentors. Activities will include, hiking, nature journaling, tracking, intro to bird language, and exploring Bohemia Preserve’s creeks and meadows, all while playing educational games along the way. The groups will then reunite in the meadow for lunch where we will share stories of our exploration and co-create a “Big Map” to document our collective experiences throughout the week.

After lunch, we will hike to the pond area together. There will be different areas staffed around the pond zone for the children to choose their own afternoon activity. For example, a lifeguard will supervise canoeing, an archery coach will be at the archery range, and a mentor will lead a nature craft activity daily.  Additionally, there will be a shady area with books, games and instruments for teh children to relax and express their creativity and story-telling skills.

On Wednesday July 18 and Thursday July 26, we will offer an overnight camping experience in the meadow for the children age 9 and up. This will provide an opportunity to connect deeper with each other and the land, as we sing and tell stories into the starry night sky.

Camp Bohemia is a truly special place for children to safely and creatively explore, question and learn about the natural world and our connection to it.

Hours of camp: 9:30 – 4 pm Camp drop off is between 9:30-10 am. The flow of traffic into camp is 1 way. Parents will not be able to drive away from the meadow until 10:05 am.

Ages: 7-14 years old

Optional overnights for youth 9 and up – Thursdays July 19th and July 26th

Junior Mentors: 4 Junior Mentor slots are available per week for youth ages 15 and up.  As part of our Junior mentor training program, older youth have the opportunity to apprentice with our experienced staff of Nature Mentors. Working and playing alongside our mentors they are able to participate in all of the fun while taking on an active role in assisting with the mentoring of the younger children and furthering their own hands-on learning adventure.  We will be accepting 4 junior mentors each week.
