Outing Summary

Our 4th of July fireworks viewing & picnic at Taylor Mountain Open Space Preserve was lots of fun. Though the fog made for a slightly chilly picnic, it also added some extra drama as the fireworks lit up the sky.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped with parking, lighting up the trail, and leading everyone up and down the mountain. With your help, we were able to safely accommodate nearly 240 participants! And thanks to Pat Mascorro for sharing his photos of the fireworks.

This outing was made possible through a partnership with your Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District. To find out more about District protected properties such as the Taylor Mountain Open Space Preserve, visit the District's website at: www.sonomaopenspace.org. Taylor Mountain is still in the planning phase and is not yet ‘open access.'

We look forward to seeing you again soon as we continue our work to connect people with the land in Sonoma County!

Looking for a "birds-eye" view of Santa Rosa's 4th of July fireworks display?  Bring your family, friends, and picnic dinner and join the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District and LandPaths on the District's Taylor Mountain Open Space Preserve, over 1000 acres of future park land on Santa Rosa's urban edge.  We'll take a short hike to a great vantage point above the fairgrounds, spread out the picnic blankets, and watch the show.

1.5-miles round trip; moderately steep terrain; returning in the dark; uneven footing with steep side-slopes (walking sticks, flashlights advised); families welcome; BYO picnic dinner

The Open Space District protects land in Sonoma County and LandPaths connects you with that land.  This outing is made possible though a partnership between the Sonoma County Ag Preservation & Open Space District and its non-profit partner LandPaths.  It is sponsored by the voters of Sonoma County who funded the District’s work with a quarter-cent sales tax, and is coordinated & guided by LandPaths.
