Job Title:              Bilingual Education Assistant

Classification:     Full-time, Non-Exempt

HOURS:                40 hours per week, Occasional Weekend and Evening Hours Required

SALARY:             $14-$16 Per Hour; Competitive Benefits Package

Reports To:           In Our Own Backyard (IOOBY) Education Manager

 

Position Summary:

LandPaths is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, and creative individual who excels in a fast- paced, creative working environment and loves the outdoors. The Bilingual Education Assistant will assist in day-to-day operations of LandPaths’ elementary school-based environmental education program, In Our Own Backyard (IOOBY), LandPaths summer Owl Camp for kids 5 to 12 years old, and other LandPaths’ education and field programs as available.  The ideal candidate has a passion for: the outdoors, sharing your passion with others, working in a team setting and community building. 

 

Job Duties:

 

IOOBY (60%)

  • Serve as an instructor for IOOBY in the field and in the classroom
  • Work alongside the education team to coordinate site visit logistics
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a beginning-of-year partner orientation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an end-of-year celebration for all participating IOOBY partners

 

OWL CAMP (20%)

  • Serve as Assistant Leader with LandPaths’ Owl Camp
  • Assist in planning curriculum, crafts, and activities appropriate to different age levels at Camp
  • Provide camp-related administrative support as needed (outreach, registration and other logistics)
  • Serve as overnight staff at camp as needed (two nights per summer)

 

GENERAL (20%)

  • Assist in recruiting and training volunteers
  • Process volunteer communications, track volunteer hours, and other data entry
  • Maintain and coordinate field gear
  • Assist in curriculum development as needed
  • Assist with photo uploads to server and website
  • Assist with outreach to support inclusive and relevant outdoor programs
  • Maintain program information and opportunities on LandPaths’ website
  • Assist field programs, school-based, youth, and community outings and volunteer stewardship programs as available

 

Education & Skills:

  • Junior College or College degree in environmental studies/ecology/education or related field
  • Bilingual English & Spanish
  • Knowledge of natural and cultural history
  • Experience and enthusiasm for working in a field-based setting
  • Ability to communicate to a variety of ages/cultural backgrounds
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and hike for long distances on uneven terrain
  • Desire for a team-centered work environment with LandPaths’ staff and volunteers
  • Ability to manage multiple and shifting variables (weather, timing, schedule changes, uneven terrain)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including computer proficiency
  • Capacity to pull together above skills while maintaining a sense of humor.
  • Interest in, and enthusiasm for, LandPaths’ mission
