Bilingual Outings Field Specialist
Gilberto Ramirez
Gilberto Ramirez (he /him/ él) joined LandPaths as a Bilingual Outings Field Specialist in September 2024. He is a migrant, first generation, Chicanx scholar, community organizer, activist, and ally to many.
As far as Gilberto can remember he has been very curious about, well, everything. He has always felt the need to explore nature, new places, but more importantly learn about different people, their cultures, customs, struggles and their resiliency. Which, in part, is why he became so invested in LandPaths.
He believes in pursuing opportunities such as leadership positions and careers oriented towards providing for underserved communities as an essential component for combating the countless issues and disparities in our society. Some of his hobbies include hiking, kayaking, photography and writing poetry.
A poem by Gilberto:
“I am from Sun, Soil, Water, and Corn.
From Purepecha blood.
I am the cultivation of those revered as fearless. From deep roots and soaring branches.
I am from rigid callused hands.
From blood, sweat, and tears.
I am from Maize tortillas.
From rich earth beans and prickly nopales.
I am from Migrant parents. From hardships and blessings. I am from thorns.
From flower and fruit.
I am from Love.
From Hope and Resilience.
Although I am not perfect
And have a lot to learn,
I have just as much to contribute.“
Please feel free to reach out to Gilberto with any questions or thoughts about outings and other outreach opportunities in English and Spanish!
